On September 8, 1948, the Congress authorized the final burial of Robert Gibson. On December 21, 1948, Alfred Gibson was given a report about his son’s death, and on July 24, the Quartermaster of Kansas City delivered the message of the property being returned to him. Robert Gibson’s body information was received by the Army Effects Bureau in Kansas City Quartermaster Depot in Missouri.
Gibson’s body remains, when prepared for shipment, was complete advanced stage of decomposition. It was prepared by Arthur J. Dupuis on May 29, 1948 in Brookwood British Isles. He was buried in uniform in a UK casket in Brookwood, England, on Plot X, Row 2, Grave 8. However, Gibson’s father requested for his permanent internment to be overseas, transferring the burial to USMC Cambridge, England. Gibson was buried in the USMC Cambridge American Cemetery on Plot E, Row 2, Grave 93 on March 3, 1949 at 3:00pm by Albert M. Shoemaker Chaplain. This is 30 miles southwest of London, England, and is under care by US military personnel. His father was notified three years later of the location of his burial by the Major General H. Feldman. The cemetery will be beautified by the American Battle Monuments Commission. |
